About us

Herndon Snider, PhD, Founder

Dr. Herndon Snider received his BA and MA degrees from Fort Hays Kansas State University in Hays, Kansas and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He served as Clinical Director of the Community Mental Health Center in Rock Springs, Wyoming prior to coming to Joplin in 1969 to become Chief Psychologist of the newly formed Ozark Mental Health Center. He played an instrumental role in the formation of the Barry-Lawrence County Mental Health Center (Clark Center) and the Mental Health Center serving the Kaysinger Basin in Clinton, Missouri. Dr. Snider founded Herndon Snider & Associates in 1973. He currently provides consultative and supervisory services.

Jan Snider Kent, PhD, CEO

Dr. Kent joined Herndon Snider & Associates in 1991, taking over as CEO in 1996. Dr. Kent graduated from Joplin’s Memorial High School in 1977. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Missouri-Columbia with her BA in 1981. In 1991 she graduated from Texas Tech University with a PhD in Clinical Psychology. She completed her doctoral internship at the Dallas Child Guidance Clinic in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Kent is licensed in Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma. Dr. Kent provides psychotherapy and psychological evaluations for children, adolescents and adults with a variety of difficulties and concerns. She understands the importance of obtaining a thorough evaluation prior to developing interventions that are individualized and based on the needs and goals of the client. Dr. Kent offers life coaching services, helping individuals, couples and families clarify and reach their goals and potential, make important decisions and improve their relationships. Dr. Kent is a Level II EMDR clinician and has received training in PET, two powerful trauma resolution therapies. Dr. Kent conducts pre-surgical evaluations and psychotherapy for individuals undergoing weight loss surgery. She is contracted with Social Security Disability Services to assist in the determination of disability benefits.

Derrise Garner, Psy.D.

Dr. Garner was born and raised in Riverton, Kansas. She understands and values the traditions of our four-state area. With over 20 years’ experience as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, she joined Herndon Snider & Associates in 2006 and is the senior clinician for the agency’s office located in Miami, OK. Dr. Garner conducts evaluations and provides individual and family therapy for children ages 4-17 who have a wide variety of emotional, developmental and/or behavioral issues. She is also a Social Security Disability Determination Services contracted evaluator. She has particular expertise in providing therapy which incorporates Parenting Skill enhancement, Behavior Modification techniques, Family Systems Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and Faith-based Therapy.

Lindsay Udell, LPC

Lindsay Udell, LPC joined Herndon Snider & Associates in 2007 after graduating from AGTS with a Master’s Degree in Counseling in 2006. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from MSSU with her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology in 2004. She strives to tailor therapeutic goals to meet each client’s unique needs, and offers faith-based counseling services to individuals and families desiring treatment consistent with their Christian beliefs. She is trained in evidence-based trauma therapy for children and adults and has worked extensively with clients dealing with depression, anxiety, childhood behavioral and emotional difficulties (including ADHD), relationship problems and grief recovery.
